ICU visits
CityU PAVC ICU Visitation Guidelines Effective on 01.03.2017
The doctors and staff at CityU PAVC understand it can be difficult to be away from your pet when it is sick and hospitalized in the intensive care unit (ICU). This is why we are in support of owners visiting their animal, when appropriate.
Visitation availability may vary based on your animal’s illness and the stability of other patients in the ICU. The ICU may limit the frequency and duration of visits if a patient develops signs of distress during visitation (such as increased heart rate, increased respiration, or other signs of agitation or decompensation). In order to ensure optimal medical care for all hospitalized ICU patients, clients with pets in the ICU are expected to comply with the following guidelines:
Visitation Hours in ICU
Once per day for 10mins. Advance booking is needed.
General range of time available for booking: 12:00pm – 9:00pm.
During the daily communication with the attending doctor or vet assistant, please make appointment with them.
Alternatively, please call 3650 3000 at 9:00am-11:00am to make appointment.
If the telephone line is busy, please send email to info@peaceavevet.com.hk.
An animal’s condition can change rapidly in the ICU. When there is a need, for example, if a patient develops signs of distress during visitation (such as increased heart rate, increased respiration, or other signs of agitation or decompensation) or resuscitation is in progress, we may suspend the visiting session or ask all owners, including the owner of this particular animal, to leave the ICU. Visitation may also be terminated or denied at any time at the discretion of hospital or ICU staff, dependent on the condition of patients and/or a veterinary crisis in the unit.
Rules during visitation:
1. No photography or video recording is allowed inside this hospital.
2. All visitors are required to register at the front desk upon arrival and ward entry.
3. Only ONE person will be allowed to visit at a time.
4. Children aged 12 or under are restricted from entering the hospital ward and must be accompanied by an adult in the waiting area.
5. Please disinfect your hands prior to and after visiting your pet. We provide hand-sanitizing alcohol solution in the general waiting area.
6. Please do not use the sinks in ICU to prepare food or water for your pet.
7. Please do not bring raw meat (BARF diets) into the hospital for patient consumption, to prevent potentially infectious agent contamination of all patients.
8. Please do not syringe feed (or water) your pet if he/she is not eating. A diet may be hand fed if the patient is interested, with the permission of the attending doctor.
